Almada Youth Hostel has one of the most spectacular views in the country.
Located on the south bank of the Tagus, next to the 25 de Abril Bridge, you have the opportunity to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole city of Lisbon while you drink a coffee or take a little break in reading a good book.
Going to Lisbon is a snap, by train, bus, boat or car. You can get to know Lisbon night by wandering through the Alcântara docks, Avenida 24 de Julho or Bairro Alto.
There is always the possibility of going to Costa da Caparica to catch some waves or even just enjoy a beautiful cocktail by the sea. Almada offers much more than a view to relax, all year round there are all kinds of events from concerts to exhibitions, from nature walks to extreme sports, here you can do everything.
It is impossible to get to the Pousada de Juventude de Almada and do not drop a wow. The view is anything ... There is an incredible perspective of the 25 de Abril Bridge, Lisbon in the background and the bright blue Tagus, just down there.
Another unforgettable panoramic view of the capital is the one that we will have later from the top of the 110 meters of the Christ-King. Everyone who visits Lisbon should come here, on the left bank of the Tagus estuary, where Almada lives, to see this perspective of the city, which can be had even while practicing sport.
If you are adept at walking or cycling, you can not miss the Cliff Route. You are on one side and Lisbon on the other, because this route accompanies the river bank of the old Almada.
And look how Almada is very old, previous to Nationality! It was formerly called "Almadan" which means gold or silver mine, in reference to the mining activity that existed there. Almada received the charter of D. Afonso Henriques in 1170, shortly after being conquered to the Moors (1147). For a long time the wealthy classes of Lisbon had in Almada their destination of rest and summer, given its privileged location. And its beaches, of course!
There are 13 kilometers of beaches, especially crowded in the summer months (a curiosity: every year, about 8 million people set foot on the beaches of Almada!). The Costa da Caparica was even entitled to a song, the unforgettable "Sol da Caparica" from the Peste & Sida, which reads: "Here I go / to the Coast / Here I go full of pica / From Lisbon I will run away / I will go ' powder 'sol da Caparica'.
You will not have to wait any closer to the summer. If the weather is not deceiving, this Easter you can already give more than walks on the beaches of the Coast. With so many people coming here from Lisbon to enjoy, it is not surprising the nightlife in the historical center, the "Almada Velha", as they call it, where there are narrow streets with lots to tell, full of restaurants and bars.
Do not miss the streets of Almada Velha only at night. Book some time for a stroll there. It is that there are some places that come to Almada you have to know.
Note the baroque Casa da Cerca, adorned with all the elegance of a Portuguese house since the beginning of the 20th century, its Center for Contemporary Art and the pleasant botanical garden; the historical Solar dos Zagalos with its rich heritage and the large and well-kept parks and gardens of the city that guarantee a healthy and pleasant lifestyle. You have the Peace Park, the Forest of the Medes, the Garden of the Capuchos, and the picturesque riverside area and the beautiful Jardim do Rio.
At Castelo de Almada, you will find another magnificent observation point of the Tagus River and the city of Lisbon.
And speaking of Rio, do not forget to visit the Naval Museum, opened in 1991. It houses one of the most important collections of memory and identity of Almada, separated between traditional shipbuilding, iron and steel, traditional fishing techniques, related tools shipbuilding and ship repair. From here you can leave for the Capuchos Convent, an old Franciscan monastery that was restored in 1558 by Lourenço Pires de Távora. Also visit the pine garden. We are sure that you will want to know more about the history of this space. And to return to Almada too!
