To speak of Santa Cruz is to speak of the most known beaches of the West region. The purity of the sands and waters, confirmed by the various awards received annually and the daytime and nighttime animation make these beaches the most popular of the West region during the bathing season.
Given the conditions that the beaches offer, the international wave sports festival, the Ocean Spirit, is held every year. This festival, besides the sport side, with the arrival of the night the stage receives several bands. To get to know Santa Cruz you can leave your car parked and enjoy one of our Agostinhas!
Apart from Santa Cruz, in Torres Vedras you can enjoy a wide range of leisure offers, not forgetting to try our Bean Pastries. And, as you know, it is in Torres Vedras that you can find the most Portuguese Carnival in Portugal!
In Santa Cruz, near Torres Vedras, you expect adrenaline from the sea to the sky and a magnificent corner of our coast.
The Youth Hostel in the small village of Santa Cruz is an excellent starting point to discover the region of the West.
Santa Cruz is one of those magnificent corners that the Portuguese coast reserves for us. About fifteen kilometers from Torres Vedras, the village is known for the extension and quality of its beaches. And it's not just us saying it! Year after year, the beaches of this area are distinguished with tourist and environmental awards.
When you arrive, we suggest you start by checking in at the modern local Youth Hostel (in hot weather, you even have a large swimming pool at your disposal!). Leave the suitcases and rent one of our "Agostinhas", to explore the zone in two wheels. If you like adrenaline, how about a Flight Baptism at the Santa Cruz Flying Club? You can take a guided tour of the aviation school, learn how an airplane works, train model airplanes with remote controlled helicopters and - the best part, in our opinion - fly in an aircraft and get to know Santa Cruz from the sky!
To eat, whether summer or winter, nothing better than fresh fish from our coast accompanied by delicious local wine (only for those over 18, of course!). With a full belly, it will be well to take a walk and, if it is night, to enter one of the bars of the village. The next day, refresh the energies by having breakfast at the Pousada (included in the lodging). Then, just pick up your "Augustine" and continue to enjoy the trip.
When you leave the Youth Hostel you will go to a viewpoint, which is in Formosa Beach. Here, in addition for you to being able to appreciate the extension of the beach, you will get to know Penedo do Guincho, one of the symbols of Santa Cruz. The Penedo do Guincho is an imposing rocky structure crossed by the sea, as you will have an opportunity to verify. It continues to Azenha, an old cereal mill, now converted into an Interpretive Center linked to the cereal grinding and breadmaking. This space also serves as a space for the visitor, as it works simultaneously as a Tourist Office.
And it's time to meet the beaches of Santa Cruz!
Leave your "Augustine" in the Center and begin the walking course "Atlantic Route". The traced route will allow you to contemplate the beauty of both urban space and nature. This course ends in Porto Novo. If you find that ten kilometers is too much, try at least going to Santa Rita. We are sure you will not regret it!
After a break on the beach of Santa Rita, it is time to return to Santa Cruz. And with so much calorie spent, it's already lunchtime. Grab something and enjoy the afternoon for a surf lesson. The sea water may be cold, but like our grandparents used to say "Cold water makes bones strong."
Surf schools have multilevel classes, so if you're not as skilful as Kelly Slater, you do not need to worry. In the end, what really matters is fun - and that is guaranteed. We bet you will enjoy your stay here. And we leave you right now, in advance, with an invitation to return with a marked date: the Carnival. We are right next to Torres Vedras and therefore the most Portuguese Carnival in Portugal. See you around here in February?!
