If you want to travel and get to know new realities and, at the same time, collaborate in the realization of works in a Youth Hostel, help in the development of a community or take care of the environment, we have several exchange experiences that you can apply.
1. Start by researching a project that pleases you. In the "experiences for you" tab you can select "all" or filter the "category" that interests you the most: "work exchange", "social impact" or "ecological projects". Each of these categories has specific subcategories, for a total of 12, namely: Service and Reception; Gardening; Cleaning and Laundry; Communication & Marketing; Kitchen & Bar; Entertainment & Animation; Painting & Decorating; Maintenance; Teaching Languages; Sharing Skills and Knowledge; Community Work; Nature Care.
2. Candidate to the available vacancies. In order to apply for the available vacancies, you must be registered or register on the platform at the moment. It's very simple! Just fill in the data form under "create account", with your name, tax identification number, phone/mobile number, e-mail (you will have to confirm the e-mail inserted again) and country. From this point on you will receive a notification in your mailbox to confirm your registration. Once registered, you can apply for the selected project(s) by filling in the information requested in the application form: start date and end date of the project; special needs that you want to inform (e.g., special mobility needs, food, communication, others); and present a motivation letter for the application, evoking the main reasons and reasons that lead you to apply and that make you the best choice for the implementation of the desired project. All you have to do is click on "send" and check your e-mail box to see if you have received our notification of receipt of your application.
3. Wait for us to contact you. If your application has been successfully submitted you will have to wait for the contact of the project manager, whose action may take up to 72 hours after. The project manager may ask you for additional information to assess better the application or present you other alternative periods that allow you to adjust the availability of the parties for the implementation of the project.
4. Confirm your presence in order to come and help! After the final contact of the project manager, which we hope will be affirmative, you will only have to confirm the acceptance of the application in the terms established between the parties. Research everything about the Youth Hostel and the surrounding region at www.pousadasjuventude.pt, "experiences" and "routes" tabs, prepare the backpack and go on the adventure to experience a very different, interesting and economical holiday period, meet people, get involved in the daily routine, live as the local inhabitants live and share this experience with the "world".
Solidarity Tourism - What is it?
Solidarity Tourism, Voluntary Tourism and Community Tourism are much more than simple concepts, which are in an interesting way associated. They are social dynamics that are established and interconnected in objectives, goals and mission.
Different and alternative forms of travel, which involve "giving" to a little of yourself to "receiving" a little of many. A responsible attitude towards others, the community and the surrounding environment, dedicating part of the time of the trip to the development of a community, the fight against social asymmetries, the qualification of its inhabitants or, simply, to take care of the environment.
The involvement associated with this type of solidarity trips allows the tourist to absorb better the local culture and contribute to leave a positive mark on the territory and people. The tasks that can be developed are very diverse.
They depend a lot on the interests and qualifications of the tourist, on the list of actions previously created by intermediary and/or welcoming organizations or, ultimately, resulting from the needs identified by the community and by its inhabitants. They can range from cooking meals for needy people, teaching music or languages, clearing forests and water paths, doing housework or providing home support to elderly people, among others.
These are just a few examples of tasks that can be organised based on the concept of solidarity tourism.
Their implementation will improve the quality of life and well-being of the target population; stimulate social interaction as a factor in combating loneliness and exclusion; boost the economic and cultural activity of the regions concerned; and care for the environment of a given region.
On the other hand, it will allow the tourist to experience a very different, interesting and economical holiday period, meet people, get involved in the daily routine, live as the local inhabitants do and share this experience with them.
An altruistic experience, with the gift of learning the traditional culture and knowledge of the community and the place visited.
A unique experience!
