The experience

This project has a partnership with Re-food Coimbra, where you'll have the opportunity to help with the collecting of food left over from restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, pastry shops, hotels, etc., and distribute it to those who need it. In this way, you'll be helping to reduce food waste, ease hunger and reduce the amount of waste that would otherwise end up in landfills, exacerbating the problem of waste management in the city.

This volunteering at Re-food will only take you two hours, the rest you can do small gardening work at the Pousada de Juventude de Coimbra and/or conduct guided tours, day or night, to places of interest, helping our guests to explore and enjoy the program "Nights of Music in the Heart of the City of Coimbra" and the parties of the city.

About the host

Coimbra is the city of students. There are festivals throughout the year, especially around the famous queima das fitas (burning of the ribbons) Celebrating the end of graduation courses, symbolized by the ritual burning of the ribbons representing each faculty of the University of Coimbra.

Stroll around town and observe the many repúblicas (republics – typical student residences), torn capes and the ancient university. Who knows if after a visit, you won’t end up studying here?

But the city is much more than that! If you like canoeing, try some strokes in the waters of the Mondego. In the Serra da Lousã (Lousã Mountain Range), youcan do all kinds of sports, including the ones most related to mountaineering and adventure pursuits!

As this is a non-stop party city, you had better have a place to stay, but not for long because the party continues! Leave your things at the Hostel and ... have fun!
