Alfeizerão, praia e ondas gigantes
It is from Alfeizerão that many of the Western Region offers come from. Beach, Surf, fruit orchards, ceramics, sweets, nature and lots of heritage and culture around you.
Go for a drive through the region without forgetting your beach towel. 15 km away, you’ll reach the village of Alcobaça, where you can visit its Monastery, classified as a World Heritage Site. Head towards Nazaré and go to the highest part of the village, the Sítio. Here, you’ll find the Sanctuary and an extraordinary view over the bay and the village centre.
Go down towards the S. Miguel Arcanjo Lighthouse and Fortress. It’s from this spot that, November to March, you’ll see surfers venturing into the big waves of Praia do Norte. If you want to have lunch in the village centre, try a fresh grilled fish or a stew.
Head to the S. Martinho do Porto Beach, one of the most beautiful in Portugal for its bay and calm waters. It’s the perfect place to relax, go for a swim and soak up the sun. If you can't just lay under the sun, take a walk on the dune walkways to Salir do Porto.
For the evening, choose between Óbidos, Peniche and Caldas da Rainha. Any of these places deserves a good visit, with time.
