Almada

You’re on the south bank of the River Tagus and Greater Lisbon. The bridge, the train and the cacilheiro boats allow you to quickly reach the centre of Lisbon. But don't miss the heritage and cultural life of Almada. If you like the beach, Costa da Caparica is a great place for sun and sea. 

Our suggestion is to get to know the municipality of Almada. Here, you have the best views over Lisbon and the River Tagus. It starts at the Hostel itself, where you can see the 25 de Abril Bridge and, just 1.5 km away, you’ll find the Cristo-Rei Sanctuary with a unique panoramic view over Lisbon. 

Go down to Cacilhas, from where the cacilheiros depart to Lisbon. We recommend a visit to the D. Fernando II e Glória Frigate. It’s a unique 19th century Portuguese warship That used to travel to and from India. Next to the river terminal, you’ll find restaurants that prepare very good grilled fish dishes for your lunch. 

By car or public transport, head over to Costa da Caparica. Choose one of the beaches or go for a good walk along the seafront promenade and sandy beaches. From Trafaria to Fonte da Telha, there are about 13 km of sand. If you Surf or Bodyboard, Costa da Caparica has the best waves in the area. 

When returning to the Hostel, be sure to stop by the Capuchos Convent. There, you’ll find another viewpoint to watch the entire coast and a beautiful sunset.
