Braga

Early in the morning, after you’ve enjoyed our breakfast, go discover Braga. Just a 5-minute walk away, the Historic Centre makes us travel between different eras and architectural styles. If you don't know what the phrase ‘to be older than the Braga Cathedral’ means, start there and you will get to know the oldest Cathedral in Portugal, where you can visit the Church and the Museum. Right next door, you can visit Praça do Município and head to the Biscainhos Museum. On your way, you’ll find several traditional commerce shops and traditional products. 

Before lunch at one of the many restaurants in the city centre, where you can taste our traditional food, you still have time to pass by the Santa Bárbara Garden, one of the most beautiful in the city. 

In the afternoon, take the opportunity to discover Bom Jesus Sanctuary, a World Heritage Site. You can take the Lift – the oldest elevator in the world still operating that uses a water counterweight system to move. Once up there, get to know the architectural work, the surrounding nature and take the opportunity to ‘see Braga through a scroll’ with a unique view over the city. In the end, you can go down the emblematic Stairs on your way back to the city. 

To go out at night, the best bars are in the Historic Centre. If you want to enjoy a show or concert, pass by the Circo Theatre, located on the emblematic Avenida da Liberdade, or the Altice Forum, 10 minutes away from the Hostel. 

As you exit the city, make one last stop at the Porta Nova Arch, because Braga always welcomes its visitors with open doors... so they want to come back!
