Lagos, praia e descobrimentos
Lagos is one of the most beautiful cities in the Algarve. It’s a pleasure to walk on the beaches with cliffs and long stretches of sand. Its historical and cultural heritage has a close connection with the Portuguese Discoveries.
Take the road to Ponta da Piedade until you almost reach the lighthouse. The view of the cliffs is unique; the sea, a blue-green hue! Continue to the D. Ana Beach where you’ll see some steps. On the sand, it’s possible to cross from the Pinhão Beach to the Batata Beach. You can take these walking tours... or go on one of the sightseeing boat tours where they take you to explore the cliffs’ caves.
Pass the Ponta da Bandeira Fortress and, already on the right side of Av. das Descobertas, you’ll find the walls with the S. Gonçalo Door. Walk to the Escravos Market, where the first slaves market in Europe may have started in the 15th century. Consider visiting it, as well as the Sto. António Church, on a nearby street.
After lunch, we recommend spending an afternoon at the Meia-Praia Beach, with its close to 5 km long stretch of sand. It’s perfect for a walk and for various water sports. It’s normal to see several windsurfers here.
The night in Lagos is very lively. From Praça Luís de Camões, you can wander the streets and choose one of the many bars. It's easy to listen to good music, have a drink and meet people from the four corners of the globe.
