Lisbon welcomes you next to the River Tagus estuary with incredible sunlight and a very mild climate. One day is not enough... you have plenty to visit and experience.
Head towards the Eduardo VII Park, where you have a great view of the city. Go down to the Marquês de Pombal Roundabout and Av. da Liberdade until Rossio. You’re stepping on the traditional Portuguese pavement and now you’re right in the centre, in Baixa. From Rossio, go up to the S. Jorge Castle and enjoy the panoramic view over the Baixa area, the River Tagus and the 25 de Abril Bridge.
Go down and walk through the Alfama neighbourhood, one of the most traditional. Close by is the Lisbon Cathedral. Lisbon is up and down! Now, go down to Praça do Comércio, admire the beautiful Triumphal Arch and reach the river bank, next to Cais das Colunas. Then, go up to the Chiado neighbourhood. It’s very lively with good shops, squares and cafes: the perfect place for a snack. Walk past Largo do Carmo, the S. Roque Church and Largo Camões.
In the afternoon, go down to Cais do Sodré and take the tram no. 15 to Belém, an area connected to the Portuguese Discoveries. Visit the interior of the Jerónimos Church and Monastery and the first factory and shop of Pastéis de Belém. Cross the Império Garden to the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and walk to the Belém Tower. The Jerónimos and the Belém Tower are classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites!
Take the tram back and visit LX Factory in Alcântara. In the city's creative cluster, relax in a cafeteria, visit the shops and make plans for the night. For clubs and bars, you have the nearby Docas, Av. 24 de Julho and, further on, the Cais do Sodré area. For snacks, Bairro Alto is an area of excellence. This was day one... You'll have to stay longer in Lisbon...!
