Santa Cruz, praia e surf
Santa Cruz is well known for the beauty of its beaches. It’s a paradise for surfers and radical sports lovers. The natural scenarios serve both the adventurous and the poets looking for moments of reflection.
If you’re a Surf or Bodyboard lover, then head down to the Santa Cruz Beach. To explore the area, rent a bike at the Hostel - the famous ‘Agostinha’. From there, take the cycle path to the Sta. Rita Beach, a well-known place for Paragliders. By the dunes, you also have the ruins of the Penafirme Convent. A round trip is close to 12 km long.
Return to Santa Cruz and head towards the Mirante Beach car park. There, you can rest and enjoy another beautiful view. Go through the village and be sure to pass near the Santa Cruz Tower, a very original structure next to the beach. Now, just one more bike ride to the Praia da Formosa Viewpoint.
If it’s not beach weather, set out to discover the Linhas de Torres, an important military protection line that, in the 19th century, prevented Napoleon's troops from conquering Portugal. Great battles took place in this area. In Torres Vedras, you have the Interpretation Centre at the S. Vicente Fortress where you can start a hiking trail.
The night will be equally lively. Santa Cruz has great bars in the village and along the beaches.
